    The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square is an iconic building housing an impressive collection of artwork with the mission of bringing people and paintings together. It welcomes thousands of visits to view the priceless artwork in equally stunning surroundings.

    The National Gallery have in excess of 400+ cameras running on a FLIR Latitude Video Management System (VMS) platform. Cameras on the system were a mix of encoded analogue, HD, Full HD and UHD units. The project was to replace all the analogue cameras and a number of legacy Axis and Avigilon cameras with 4k mini dome and bullet type units and, in some cases with 12Mp hemispherical units. We managed this as a staggered project taking into account specific areas of importance for the National Gallery. We also upgraded the archiving capability required to maintain the recording capacity and the 10% spare capacity at each NVR required for a stable and reliable system

     

    THE CHALLENGE

    To provide high specification CCTV upgrade with enhanced video capability for the protection of valuable art in the prestigious Sainsbury Wing. Not to impact on the general public and the restrictions on access to view art.

     

    THE SOLUTION

    Works were carried out outside public viewing times, careful consideration was given to working in galleries and the artwork, with no impact on the Gallery day to day running and no disruptions. Utilising FLIR CCTV system UHD Cameras, new archiver units, integration with existing system set up including the Fortecho artwork protection and the access control system.
     
    The system is set up so that if there is a security breaches to immediately switch on cameras in that area alerting security staff. System was balanced for distribution, retained recording and spare capacity.

     

    THE RESULT

    Updated, modern supportable system. Improved picture quality and system reliability for improved security of art and the general public.

    Somerset House

    Somerset House is a heritage property dating back to 1547 in the heart of London. Although it is well known for it’s outdoor skating rink at Christmas and open air concerts in the summer, it has many other uses and accommodates many other tenants. It hosts the UK’s largest creative community working globally across art, technology, business and social enterprise.

    The South Wing of Somerset House had a mix of hard wired fire detection system, an obsolete radio / wireless fire detection system and many aspiration systems, most no longeroperational. The project was to replace all of the systems in the South Wing with a single fire detection system for all areas and provide graphical representation of this wing and two other wings with legacy systems on a single graphics platform.

    This was all to be carried out within a listed building with mixed use and different tenants with minimal disruption to day to day operations.

    Castle Mall

    Located in the centre of Norwich City, Castle Mall shopping centre comprises of 60 stores and food outlets, across five levels of retail and leisure, including an 8-screen Vue cinema. The centre also boasts a 790 space multi-storey car park.

    The fire detection and alarm system installed in the shopping centre was a Honeywell FC90 system, which was closed protocol and had reached the end of its working life. A replacement system was therefore needed to provide a modern supportable system for the shopping centre.

    This is a working shopping centre so minimal disruption to the operation of the shopping centre, retailers and shoppers was of paramount importance.
