    The National Gallery is one of the UK’s most iconic cultural institutions welcoming visitors from around the world to view the impressive art collection in an incredible setting.

    The National Gallery required a significant upgrade to its ageing access control system. The existing Sateon platform no longer met the evolving security demands of a high-profile and publicly accessible venue and was wired in Radial RS485 circuits.

     

    THE CHALLENGE

    The project scope included migrating to a modern Gallagher access control system and seamlessly integrating critical third-party systems—Flir CCTV VMS, Edwards EST3 fire alarm, Traka Key safe and Fortecho artwork protection—into a single, unified management platform.

    The upgrade had to be performed without any downtime to security, preserving uninterrupted protection of valuable artwork and the safety of staff and visitors.

     

    THE SOLUTION

    Senseco Systems engineered and implemented a comprehensive security upgrade comprising:
     

    • Full upgrade from Sateon to Gallagher access control.
    • Utilising “middleware” to take the existing information from the Sateon system, cleanse the data and import into the Gallagher system.
    • High-level integration of Flir, Edwards EST3, TRAKA key safe and Fortecho systems into a centralised security management interface.
    • Careful phased implementation to ensure zero downtime and continuous site protection.

      Close coordination with The National Gallery’s security and facilities teams ensured smooth delivery with minimal disruption. Senseco deployed specialist engineers with expertise in high-security environments and system integration to guarantee a high-quality outcome.

    THE RESULT

    The National Gallery now benefits from a cutting-edge, fully integrated security platform that enhances situational awareness, streamlines security management, and future-proofs the site for further enhancements. The upgrade was completed on time and without compromising the gallery’s daily operations, with the client stating:

    Somerset House

    Somerset House is a heritage property dating back to 1547 in the heart of London. Although it is well known for it’s outdoor skating rink at Christmas and open air concerts in the summer, it has many other uses and accommodates many other tenants. It hosts the UK’s largest creative community working globally across art, technology, business and social enterprise.

    The South Wing of Somerset House had a mix of hard wired fire detection system, an obsolete radio / wireless fire detection system and many aspiration systems, most no longeroperational. The project was to replace all of the systems in the South Wing with a single fire detection system for all areas and provide graphical representation of this wing and two other wings with legacy systems on a single graphics platform.

    This was all to be carried out within a listed building with mixed use and different tenants with minimal disruption to day to day operations.

    Castle Mall

    Located in the centre of Norwich City, Castle Mall shopping centre comprises of 60 stores and food outlets, across five levels of retail and leisure, including an 8-screen Vue cinema. The centre also boasts a 790 space multi-storey car park.

    The fire detection and alarm system installed in the shopping centre was a Honeywell FC90 system, which was closed protocol and had reached the end of its working life. A replacement system was therefore needed to provide a modern supportable system for the shopping centre.

    This is a working shopping centre so minimal disruption to the operation of the shopping centre, retailers and shoppers was of paramount importance.
