Senseco Newsletter May 2018 and update to our Privacy Policy

Fairness, Inclusions & Respect Ambassadors

We are pleased to announce that Senseco has two Fairness, Inclusion and Respect Ambassadors.  Emma Manuel and Hannah Gibson from our HR team attended an FIR workshop run by the Supply Chain Sustainability School and have become FIR ambassadors for our business.  The construction industry in general and the fire and security industry specifically, are facing an unprecedented skills shortage.  It is important that we attract and recruit from the full pool of talent including those groups who have traditionally been under represented.  Our goal is creating better workplaces that are fairer, inclusive and more respectful so they are positive places to work where everyone feels safe and supported, able to achieve their maximum potential and be part of an exciting and rewarding industry.

Women in Construction

Zoe Richardson, one of our Project Managers, has a degree in construction management and is a member of Women in Construction.  Zoe started as an administrator on a construction site 15 years ago, progressing through different roles including quantity surveyor and various work placements during her degree studies.  She has been in the fire and security industry for the last 9 years and in her role as Project Manager for Senseco is currently managing some very high-profile contracts including some new build projects at Wood Wharf, the latest Canary Wharf development.

As well as attending seminars, Zoe has been out to local Colleges and Universities carrying out lectures on Women in Construction.  At a recent lecture at Mid Kent College she was letting young women know that there were various choices and careers in construction / engineering.  It is not all about being on the tools.  Saying that, Zoe is no stranger to rolling her sleeves up and “mucking in” on site when deadlines need to be met!

CIBSE – 13th June – London and
BIFM –  27th June – Chichester Seminars

Just a reminder about presentations we are carrying out at forthcoming CIBSE and BIFM South Seminars.  The CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) YEN (Young Engineers Network) event is being held at Cundall, near St Pauls in London on 13th June, arrival from 6pm ready for a 6.30pm start.  The BIFM (British Institute of Facilities Management) South event is at County Hall, Chichester, arrival from 5.30pm ready for a 6pm start.  Both are open to non-members.  The seminar content is as follows:

With recent high-profile fires, the issues of fire detection and fire suppression have never been more prominent in people’s minds. The need for compliant systems to effectively detect fires and suppression systems to control or extinguish them, to protect people and property is of paramount importance.  This presentation is in two parts and looks at water mist systems as an alternative to sprinkler systems, giving the pros and cons of each.  But it mainly focusses on the updated fire detection and alarm standard BS5839-1:2017.  It gives an overview of the changes to the standard and what you need to be aware of.
